We help ambitious companies tackle their product development challenges.
Because world class engineers want to work on world class problems.
Graham fell in love with product development immediately after completing his Masters in Electrical Engineering. His first job at a hardware startup quickly revealed his talent for solving complex technical challenges. Within three years, he was promoted to CTO, leading an 8-person engineering team developing custom vending machines for global brands like Nestle and Mars.
In 2012, Graham recognized a pattern: ambitious companies with great product ideas lacked the technical expertise to execute them properly. He founded NEDlabs with a simple mission - help these companies navigate the complex world of hardware product development. His experience building cross-disciplinary teams became the blueprint for NEDlabs' approach.
The first projects were challenging but rewarding - developing specialized systems for industrial clients and consumer electronics startups. NEDlabs secured its first government-backed R&D project developing Tactalis, an innovative tactile interface for the visually impaired.
NEDlabs took its first equity stake in a client company, partnering with Otto to develop a comprehensive home automation platform. Unlike larger firms, Graham maintained a boutique approach, ensuring every client received direct access to senior talent.
NEDlabs has grown to a team of 8 working across 2 offices in Edmonton. Our portfolio now spans consumer technology, commercial automation, and emerging technology. We continue to help ambitious companies navigate the complex journey from concept to increasingly complex solutions.
Our engineering team brings deep experience across electronics, firmware, software, and mechanical disciplines. Each member contributes specialized expertise while collaborating seamlessly on complex technical challenges.

It depends.
Who works on your project depends on what skills are needed for the project. We bring people in as they are needed throughout the project. Some will be on your project the entire time, while others will come in for certain aspects.
9 times out of 10, we encounter unforeseen challenges.
That's just part of the product development process. We assess, we learn, and we adapt. We also keep you in the loop, so you stay aware and are able to make key decisions when necessary.
R&D is where it all began for us.
We have experience bringing novel technology to market, and can help you with understanding use cases, markets, and securing patents.
We'd like to help everyone, but that's not realistic. We gauge fit based on your project and requirements.
We take on clients that are ambitious, open minded, and have a growth mindset, but also fit our capabilities and capacity.
If you're looking for a freelancer, that's not us. If you're looking to spend $1M+, that's also not us.
